The US Embassy in Jerusalem has urged its employees to leave Israel due to increasing security risks amid a possible escalation around Iran.
This is reported by The New York Times.
The United States Embassy in Jerusalem has allowed staff and their family members to evacuate at U.S. government expense.
In a letter to staff, Ambassador Mike Huckabee said the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution” after consultation with the State Department. He stressed that the safety of employees is a priority.
The ambassador said those wishing to leave should do so “today” and find any available flight from Ben Gurion Airport. He warned that demand for tickets could increase and the continued availability of flights remains uncertain.
“There is no need to panic, but for those who wish to leave, it is important to plan as early as possible,” Huckabee said.
It is noted that Israel is a likely target for retaliation from Iran or its allies if the United States attacks it.
