Umerov discusses plan to force Russia into negotiations with EU representatives

Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov met in Warsaw with EU defence ministers to develop an action plan aimed at putting pressure on Russia and encouraging it to start constructive negotiations.

Umerov published details of the meeting on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

The Minister expressed gratitude to European partners for their support throughout Ukraine's 11-year confrontation with Russian aggression, including more than three years of full-scale invasion.

“We have a clear plan of action that is aimed at forcing Russia to engage in real negotiations,” Umerov noted.

Together with its allies, Ukraine is focused on three main tasks: protecting the front line; ensuring the security of Ukrainian skies – creating a reliable air defense system to protect cities, the economy and the army; developing long-range capabilities to disrupt the enemy's logistics and neutralize its offensive potential.

Umerov stressed that more weapons for Ukraine means a faster path to peace. The main areas of support include ammunition, long-range missiles, armored vehicles, aviation and air defense systems.

The meeting also focused on strengthening Ukraine's defense industry. Umerov noted that the development of this sector contributes to the security of both Ukraine and Europe. Ukraine is ready for joint defense projects, including based on Denmark's approach, and is ready to invest in the EU's defense industry, Umerov said.

“Our strategic goal is the full integration of Ukraine's industrial base into the European defense ecosystem. Expanding military assistance and joint production is the path to sustainable peace in Ukraine and the entire continent,” Umerov concluded.

As previously reported, a special structure is being created in the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of Ukraine that will deal exclusively with the development of military aviation.
