Ukraine’s Rada appoints new economy minister

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, has appointed Ihor Petrashko new Minister for Development of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The move was backed by 243 MPs with at least 226 votes required, an UNIAN correspondent reported on March 17.

As many as 217 members of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction voted in favor of the new minister, while seven votes were provided by the Za Maybutnie Group and 13 votes came from the Dovira Group. Moreover, six independent MPs backed the new appointment.

UNIAN memo. Ihor Petrashko graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University with a degree in Business Administration. He also holds an MBA degree with the U.S.-based Vanderbilt University.

Petrashko has occupied senior positions at consulting and investment firms since 1996.

Moreover, he has served at positions with one of Ukraine’s largest agricultural producers, UkrLandFarming Agro Holding, owned by Oleg Bakhmatyuk, since 2013.
