Ukraine will be priority issue on agenda of G7 summit – Japan’s PM

Support for Ukraine in resisting Russian aggression will be a priority issue on the agenda of the G7 summit that will kick off on May 19 in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

That's according to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who will chair the meeting, NHK reports.

Japanese officials are finalizing the agenda for the upcoming Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima.

The meetings will cover a range of tics, including Ukraine, China, North Korea, and nuclear disarmament.

The officials are also weighing additional themes, such as the global economy and finance after the coronavirus pandemic, climate change, and trends in digitalization including Artificial Intelligence. Establishing rules on the use of AI is considered a major emerging challenge.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida td reporters on Monday, May 8, that he wants to use the summit as an portunity to reaffirm the G7's unwavering sidarity with Ukraine. He also said the leaders will discuss challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, including East Asia.

Earlier reports said that U.S. President Joe Biden would take part in the G7 summit.
