Ukraine taking over Chairmanship of OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation from Turkey

On April 20, 2020, Ukraine is taking over the Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation from Turkey.

“Our State will be the first to chair the Forum online, taking into account the situation associated with the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine said in a statement on the beginning of Ukraine’s presidency in the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC).

Ukraine’s Chairmanship will focus on restoring full and faithful implementation of OSCE fundamental principles and norms of international law, the importance of further joint work on improving the politico-military toolbox of the OSCE in light of new challenges and threats and rapid technological development in the military sphere.

“Priority issues for consideration at the FSC plenary sessions will include modern challenges to regional and international security, primarily hybrid threats, militarization and impediment of navigation in the Azov and Black Sea region, and a number of other issues within the framework of the Forum’s mandate, in particular, small arms and light weapons, and the implementation of the UNSC resolutions 1540 (nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction) and 1325 (role of women in peace and security),” it said.
