“Ukraine has never been a threat to Belarus”: Zelensky spoke about the meeting with Tikhanovskaya

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about his meeting with Belarusian opposition figure Svitlana Tikhanovskaya, who arrived on a visit to Kyiv on May 25.

He wrote about this on social media.

“Today in Kyiv, a summit “The IV International Summit of Cities and Regions , which brought together 24 countries, primarily European countries. All our European neighbors are represented – Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, Romania and Belarus,” the president said.

Zelensky stressed that all participants in the meeting support the desire of the Belarusian people to get rid of Russian interference.

“We know that Russia is now trying to draw Belarus even further into this war against Ukraine. And we appreciate every manifestation of support from Belarusians for a free Ukraine and know that there will be a day when our states will once again have good-neighborly relations based on the real independence of both Ukraine and Belarus from Moscow,” he said.

According to the president, he discussed these topics with Svitlana Tikhanovskaya and her team, who is visiting Kyiv.

“Ukraine has never been a threat to Belarus. And we are grateful to those Belarusians who are with Ukraine now, when the fate of both our independence and the independence of every nation bordering Russia is being decided,” Zelensky said.

On May 25, Belarusian opposition leader Svitlana Tsikhanouskaya arrived in Kyiv for a visit. She was accompanied by her advisors — Franak Vyachorka, Denys Kuchinsky, and Anatoliy Lebedko, as well as representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet (UTC): deputy head Pavlo Latushko, chief of staff Valeriy Matskevich, and social affairs representative Olga Zazulinska.

Tikhanovskaya received an invitation to visit Ukraine from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the end of January this year in Vilnius during their first bilateral meeting.

On May 22, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced that Belarusian opposition figure Svitlana Tikhanovskaya would arrive in Ukraine in the near future.
