U.S. Senator after visiting Kyiv: Security assistance used as intended

Senator Angus King, who visited Kyiv together with Jack Reed, chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, praised the level of audit of the use of U.S. security assistance provided to Ukraine.

According to King, the main issue with which he came to Kyiv was to check the accounting of the funds and equipment that the US provides to Ukraine, the Voice of America reports.

"I came back extremely impressed with the level of accounting. Huge software audit, physical audit, tracking. My job was to make sure that the resources provided by the American pele were used as intended. And I am sure that this is so," the Senator noted.

In Kyiv, U.S. legislators met, in particular, with President Vodymyr Zelensky who informed them about the situation on the front and highly praised the transfer of Bradley fighting vehicles and other military aid to Ukraine announced by the White House. He also mentioned risks of possible escalation on the part of Russia.

Senator Reed stated that Bradley fighting vehicles should enable the Armed Forces of Ukraine not only to break through the front line but also to move forward to push the Russians out of Ukrainian territory.

At the same time, the senators noted that the provision of Bradley vehicles does not mean that Ukraine will automatically receive Abrams tanks. According to Reed, the United States and other countries are trying to find the right combination of armored vehicles that could be used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine most efficiently.

"We have to be prepared for other unforeseen situations, and I'm sure that's one of the main factors that the Pentagon considers when making recommendations on what equipment to provide. This is another reason why we are looking not only for equipment from the United States but also from other countries," Reed said.
