U.S. administration officials have warned President Trump against personally communicating with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin until the Kremlin leader agrees to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

U.S. administration officials have expressed concerns that Trump might suddenly decide to contact Putin. However, they say he has been advised that a call would not be prudent until Putin confirms to the White House his commitment to a full ceasefire in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the report says.

It is specified that a telephone conversation between Trump and Putin is not planned for Thursday.

In this context, NBC recalled that in a Sunday interview, Trump announced his intention to speak with Putin later this week.

As reported by Ukrinform, the special representative of the Russian president, Kirill Dmitriev, held a series of meetings with members of the US administration and American lawmakers in the US after sanctions were temporarily lifted so that he could cross the country's border. It is not yet clear whether he met with Donald Trump. This is the first visit of a Russian official to the US since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
