President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian authorities are preparing a decision on the restructuring and renewal of the energy supply of Ukrainian communities. According to him, the corresponding plan for the 2027 heating season will be considered and approved at the national level. The government will also create a coordination center to prepare the energy sector for the next winter.
He announced this following a conference call on the situation in the regions with electricity and heat supply on February 19.
According to the head of state, to better prepare the energy sector for next winter, the Cabinet of Ministers is preparing a modified system for providing communities with electricity. This plan will take into account the experience of Ukrainian cities and communities that were able to avoid the energy crisis this winter, and will implement their developments at the state level.
“Every Ukrainian city, every community that prevented such internal disasters this winter, as were the case, in particular, in Kyiv, has experience that can and should be taken into account throughout Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
In addition, the president added that an appropriate coordination center will be created at the government level, which will work to systematize the real experience of communities.
Since January 14, on the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelensky, a state of emergency has been in effect in Ukraine's energy sector amid Russian strikes and worsening weather conditions.
On February 18, the head of the Ministry of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, said that Kyiv had proposed to its partners to create an Energy Task Force — a unified coordination architecture to help Ukraine restore its energy sector after the Russian strikes.
