Swedish prosecutors unveil version of Nord Stream blasts

Swedish Prosecutor's Office, which is investigating the blast at the Nord Stream pipeline connecting Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea, announced its main version of the incident. Prosecutors say a state-sponsored group is behind the explosion.

The probe is run by the Swedish Security Service under the supervision of the State Prosecutor of the National Security Division of the Swedish Prosecutor's Office.

“Our he is to be able to confirm who has committed this crime, but it should be noted that it likely will be difficult given the circumstances,” Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist said.

According to the prosecutor, "the main clear scenario" is that a state-sponsored group was behind the attack but it is also "theoretically possible” that a private group is responsible.

"The incident has obviously become an en arena for different influence attempts," Ljungqvist said in the statement.

As reported, on September 26, 2022, as a result of the explosions, the underwater parts of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were damaged. Two leaks were recorded in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden. These countries are authorized to investigate the causes of the incident.
