Starmer: Time for talk is over, time for action is now

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he never imagined he would see Russia occupy countries again after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

He said this in an interview with The New York Times, as reported by Ukrinform.

“I still remember how I felt when the Berlin Wall fell. It was the beginning of a new era in which the principles of democracy and freedom were to triumph. I never thought that in my lifetime I would witness the Russian occupation of countries again,” Starmer said.

He emphasized that the time for discussions about increasing defense spending has passed, and now the time has come to act in this direction.

“For years, the EU has been saying that we need to strengthen our defence and security, but we have not done so. I am absolutely convinced that the time for words is over and the time for action has come,” the British Prime Minister added.

The Berlin Wall, which was approximately 168 kilometers long, was in operation from August 13, 1961 to November 9, 1989. It became one of the most significant symbols of the struggle for independence and the division of Germany.
