Starmer discusses Ukraine support with Baltic leaders

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has held discussions with the leaders of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on continuing support for Ukraine, and briefed them on his recent talks with the leaders of Ukraine, France and the US on the issue.

As Ukrinform reports, citing the UK government website, these telephone conversations took place on Sunday before the summit on Ukraine in London.

“This morning, the Prime Minister spoke with Estonian President Alar Karis, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda,” the statement said.

During their conversations, Starmer stressed that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were important allies of the UK, including through the Joint Expeditionary Force, and noted their “significant contribution to supporting Ukraine since Russia's illegal invasion began”.

“The Prime Minister briefed them on his discussions with the leaders of Ukraine, France and the United States over the past few days and stressed his determination to secure a lasting peace in Ukraine that will safeguard its future sovereignty, supported by robust security guarantees,” the UK government said.

It was also indicated that they agreed to remain in close contact in the coming weeks.

As reported by Ukrinform, at the meeting of international leaders on March 2 in London, issues of strengthening Ukraine's position will be considered, including continuing military support, increasing economic pressure on Russia, as well as achieving a just peace and developing reliable security guarantees for Ukraine.

The summit will be attended by the leaders of Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Spain, Canada, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Romania. Also present will be the President of Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, the Secretary General of NATO, the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council.
