Since 2022, about 26 thousand Ukrainian military personnel have been trained in Germany — General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Since mid-2022, about 26,000 Ukrainian military personnel have been trained in Germany under the coordination of the Multinational Special Training Command (MNT-C).

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

They said that within the framework of this mission, training activities were conducted at more than 50 military and industrial training facilities throughout the territory of Germany.

Thus, the range of training covered basic military disciplines in all operational domains, including: combined arms training, fire training, tactical planning, medical training, protection against weapons of mass destruction (WMD), demining, logistics, and communications.

“In addition, specialized training formats, as well as the training of staff officers, strengthened leadership qualities, management capabilities, and operational planning. All branches of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) provided personnel and specialists, supported by highly motivated multinational instructors,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.

Separately, the department noted the “operative feedback” of the ST-C Military District with Ukrainian servicemen, as “first-hand” information about conditions on the battlefield directly influenced the development and implementation of training programs.

“This allowed for rapid adjustment of training priorities, in particular in such areas as the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), tactical procedures, as well as maintenance and support of the operability of weapons and military equipment (WME) in combat conditions. Training was invariably planned and conducted in accordance with the principle of “adaptation to the combat mission,” they explained.

The ST-C also continued to operate as a multinational headquarters. Of the approximately 100 staff positions, about a third are filled by personnel from 13 Partner countries, underscoring the collective European commitment to supporting Ukraine.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine added that in recent months, the ST-C Military Training Center has remained a “key operational element” in supporting the EU military assistance mission to Ukraine – EUMAM Ukraine, providing combat-based and task-oriented training for the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Last November, the EU Council extended the mandate of its training mission (EUMAM Ukraine) to train the Ukrainian military for two years, until November 15, 2026.

The EUMAM Ukraine mission was established in October 2022 to assist in the training of Ukrainian military personnel. Within its framework, training is carried out mainly in Poland and Germany. In total, there is currently a coalition of 32 partner states, which are organizationally part of two military assistance missions to Ukraine. These are the Security Assistance Group Ukraine (SAG-U) and the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM).

Over the previous two years of the mission's activity, about 70,000 Ukrainian military personnel have been trained in the territories of 24 participating countries.
