Shts discussed the situation in Ukraine with Merz after Zelensky and Trump's talks
Suddeutsche Zeitung reports this, Ukrinform reports.
The report notes that on Friday evening, Schtz called his presumptive successor, Mertz, to discuss the White House scandal and its implications.
An unexpected turn of events has now changed the situation, requiring Merz to take a more active role in international affairs than is usually expected of a new chancellor.

Earlier in the day, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that no joint international events for the two politicians, such as the March 2 meeting in London that Schtz will attend, were planned during the transition period. Schtz and Merz last met in Berlin on Tuesday, February 25.
Both politicians reacted to the events in Washington via social media. Schtz wrote: “No one wants peace more than Ukrainians. That is why we are working on a common path to a lasting and just peace. Ukraine can count on Germany — and on the Rhineland.” In turn, Merz assured Zelensky of Germany's support for Ukraine “in good and difficult times.”
