Senior Russian diplomat arrives in Pyongyang, likely to discuss US talks – media

A delegation from the Russian Foreign Ministry headed by Deputy Minister Andrei Rudenko has arrived in Pyongyang. Seoul believes that the purpose of the visit is to clarify Russia's position regarding the ceasefire proposed by the US and Moscow's next steps in the conflict with Ukraine.

This was reported by the Renhap agency, citing state media of the DPRK, Ukrinform reports.

It is specified that Russian diplomats visited North Korea for the first time since June 2024, when they accompanied Russian President Vladimir Putin on his trip to Pyongyang for talks with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un.

Specific details of Rudenko's visit are not yet known, but experts speculate that he may be there to clarify his country's position on the American ceasefire proposal and to discuss the possibility of Pyongyang sending additional military aircraft to support Russia's military actions.

Seoul's intelligence agency said last month that North Korea appeared to have moved additional forces to Russia after it sent about 11,000 troops to fight alongside Russian forces in Ukraine last year.

As Ukrinform reported, North Korea's largest enterprises producing artillery shells and missiles have significantly increased their production capacity over the past three years in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
