Sandu on the Nobel Peace Prize: Ukrainian prisoners deserve it more

Moldovan President Maia Sandu rejected the offer of a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, emphasizing that the real heroes are Ukrainian prisoners of war and those who sacrifice themselves for peace in the region.

She told TV8 about this.

Sandu commented on the proposal for her nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, noting that she does not aspire to receive this award. The Head of State emphasized that there are many worthy candidates, especially those who truly sacrifice themselves for the sake of peace and security.

“I, of course, appreciate it and am grateful that people are watching our country, that they appreciate our courage and resilience, but there are many people nominated for this prize. Today I looked at the [captive] Ukrainians who returned home from Russia, and these are people who deserve the peace prize,” Sandu said.

The President added that true heroes are those who give their lives or risk them for peace in their countries, cities, and villages. She hopes that peace in the region will come as soon as possible.

The proposal to nominate Sandu was initiated by a member of the Norwegian parliament, emphasizing that the President of the Republic of Moldova deserves the nomination “for her active role in defending democracy, the rule of law, and peace in the country.”

He noted that the head of state “is at the forefront of defending democracy in Europe.”
