Romanian Parliament Approves Law to Shoot Down Drones Crossing Border

The Romanian Senate has approved a “drone law” that allows for the neutralization or destruction of unmanned aerial vehicles that illegally enter the country's airspace.

As reported by Ukrinform, this information was reported by Romania Journal.

81 senators from the upper house of the Romanian parliament voted in favor of the law, 12 voted in favor and two abstained.

The document proposed by the government states that drones that illegally cross the border and fly without permission could be neutralized or even destroyed.

Now it is necessary to determine who will be authorized to make such decisions, the publication notes.

“Usually in such cases we are talking about commanders who are on missions in the area. They must be able to open fire on drones that violate Romanian airspace without permission,” explained General Virgil Belecanu, former commander of the Seebrig multinational brigade.

In his opinion, Romania should have a “very short decision-making chain” for opening fire on drones.

“Let's hope that thanks to the instructions that will be given on the basis of the law, the operation will take place in a very short time, since you don't have much time to complete the task,” the general added.
