Poland appeals to Ukraine regarding drones flying into NATO countries

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that Ukraine must select targets for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation as accurately as possible in order to avoid risks to the security of NATO countries.

He stated this during a briefing for journalists.

According to him, incidents with drones that may violate the airspace of NATO member states can be used by Russia for provocations, propaganda, and increased hybrid actions.

“Ukraine must – and this is also being said by the military and NATO – define its goals much more precisely so as not to create a threat to the security of the Alliance countries. This can serve as Russian provocations and be used by the Russian Federation for propaganda, as well as to escalate the conflict and intensify hybrid warfare,” the Polish minister said.

At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine must be very careful, combining its tactical tasks in the war with the need not to create risks for NATO countries.

Earlier, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budris stated that Russia may be deliberately directing Ukrainian drones towards the Baltic countries and at the same time conducting an information campaign against them.

In addition, on May 19, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur reported that a drone had entered the country's airspace and was later shot down by air defense systems over Lake Virtsjärv.

According to preliminary data, the drone may have been of Ukrainian origin and was heading to targets in Russia. The exact circumstances of the incident are to be established by the Estonian Air Force and security services.
