No new roads will be built in Ukraine since 2022 — Mustafa Nayem

Mustafa Nayem, former head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development of Ukraine, said that new roads have not been built in Ukraine since 2022, but only existing ones are being repaired.

Mustafa Nayem announced this during a meeting of the Temporary Investigative Commission to investigate possible violations in the defense sector, anti-corruption legislation, and human rights compliance under martial law, a Suspilny correspondent reports.

According to Mustafa Nayem, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the government has reduced the amount of funds allocated from the budget for road maintenance. “Currently, 10 times less is allocated for road repair than is necessary,” he said.

He also reported that after 2023, money for roads was allocated “manually.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that current repairs on highways of international importance should be completed by May 1, and all major work by June 1.

The head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development of Ukraine, Serhiy Sukhomlyn, said that approximately 50 billion hryvnias are needed for pothole and current repairs of roads of various importance. Of these, 12–14 billion are for the repair of roads of international and national importance. They will be restored as a priority.
