No discussions on hding elections in Ukraine – Venislavskyi

There are no discussions or deliberations on hding elections in Ukraine during the legal regime of martial law.

President's representative in the Parliament, member of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Fedir Venislavskyi said this in a comment to Ukrinform.

"There are no discussions at all, no information that anyone is discussing the possibility of hding elections," Venislavskyi said.

The pitician emphasized that he had not heard that the possibility of hding elections during the legal regime of martial law was discussed among MPs or government officials. "Therefore, the Rada does not hd any consultations with the Central Election Commission, does not make any decisions and does not even discuss this issue," Venislavskyi assured.

According to Venislavskyi's subjective belief, the Constitution of Ukraine indirectly does not allow elections to be held during martial law, but there is no direct prohibition.

"Due to the different understanding and vision of Article 83 of the Constitution regarding elections by lawyers, there is a discussion in the legal plane, but there are no grounds for it in terms of pitical realities today," the official said.

The pitician emphasized that the issue of hding elections has not been discussed at any pitical level, except for the statement of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, who answered a question asked by journalists about the possibility of hding elections in the context of war.

"He (Stefanchuk – ed.) said from the point of view of his understanding that elections are possible, I think they are impossible, but this is just a discussion," Venislavskyi summarized.

As reported, recently the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said that the Constitution does not prohibit hding elections during martial law.
