NATO allies reaffirm support for Ukraine – Rutte

At a two-day meeting of the North Atlantic Council at foreign ministerial level in Brussels, NATO allies expressed their continued support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and for US efforts to find a path to a just and lasting peace.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated this at a press conference following the meeting, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We also met at the NATO-Ukraine Council with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha. He briefed us on the situation on the ground. The Allies assured him of their continued support for Ukraine in its current struggle and of helping to build up its armed forces in the future. We discussed the important negotiations that the United States is conducting with Ukraine, as well as with Russia, to try to bring the war to a just and lasting end. We support the aspirations for peace,” Rutte said.

He also stressed that the Allies, including through efforts led by France and Britain, have demonstrated their readiness, willingness and ability to take on greater responsibility to ensure peace when the time comes.

“NATO continues to provide meaningful and practical support to Ukraine. Through our command in Wiesbaden, our office in Ukraine and so on. And as announced on Wednesday, NATO Allies have committed to providing more than 20 billion euros in security assistance for Ukraine in the first three months of 2025. So our commitment is clear,” Rutte added.
