MEPs preparing letter to Eurean Commission over Hungary’s decision to simplify entry for Russians
MEP Petras Austrevicius of Lithuania td this to Ukrinform.
"I fully support the need to take apprriate measures against Hungary's intention to bring citizens of Russia and Belarus to the EU as guest workers. This fundamentally contradicts the values and picies of the EU adted at the moment. I consider it an attempt by Hungary to appease the eastern dictators, to obtain unilateral economic benefits, to disrupt the sidarity of the West and to viate the common position of the EU," Austrevicius said.
According to him, in view of this situation, some MEPs are already considering sending a joint letter to the Eurean Commission calling for restrictive measures against Hungary after the relevant decision is finally made.
Earlier media reports said that Hungary had simplified entry conditions for citizens of Russia and Belarus. Budapest included Russians and Belarusians in the "national card" program – the card is issued to those willing to work in Hungary for two years with the possibility of extension.
Lithuania, in turn, filed a complaint with the Eurean Commission against Hungary's decision to simplify the entry procedure for citizens of Russia and Belarus, saying that this step threatens the security of the Eurean Union.
