Markarova about U.S. aid to Ukraine: We welcome transparency and accountability
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova stated this in an interview with ABC News.
“We actually welcome the transparency and accountability. We're working with Congress on a very strong bipartisan basis. … And there is a number of systems already in place. The NATO system on the security systems, but also the full reporting on the budget support. So, we look forward to continuing doing that. And, actually, we really count on Congress continued support, especially for 2023,” the ambassador said.
Markarova explained why Ukraine urgently needs modern air defense systems (in particular, U.S. Patriot systems), which can help protect pele and civilian infrastructure from Russian missile attacks.
“During the last two months … there is a massive attack on civilian infrastructure: 50% of the energy is destroyed of the energy grid. We have to st it. And the only way to do it is with increased number of air defense everywhere in Ukraine," she said.
As Ukrinform reported, in recent months, certain representatives of the MAGA wing of the Republican Party, which is associated with former U.S. President Donald Trump, have been calling into question the need to continue large-scale aid to Ukraine and demanding additional reporting. At the same time, a significant number of Republicans support the current course of the United States on this issue.
