Maia Sandu signed Moldova's withdrawal from the CIS

Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed decrees on the country's withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

This is reported by the Moldovan publication Newsmaker.

The decrees provide for the denunciation of the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS, its Protocol, and the Charter of the Commonwealth. The laws entered into force on April 8 after publication in the Official Monitor.

The process of Moldova's withdrawal from the CIS was initiated by the country's government in January 2026.

On April 2, the Moldovan parliament finally denounced the agreement on the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as related documents and the organization's charter. The authors of the initiative calculated that after leaving the CIS, Moldova would save about 155 thousand euros annually.

In total, Moldova has already terminated about 70 agreements with this organization.

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is a regional international organization of Asia and Eastern Europe that includes a number of post-Soviet countries.
