Magyar revokes Hungary's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced that the government is withdrawing Hungary's intention to withdraw from the International Criminal Court. Former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán launched the process of Hungary's withdrawal back in 2025 due to the ICC's investigation into the case against Israel.

Peter Magyar reported this on the social network X.

“The government withdraws Hungary's intention to withdraw from the International Criminal Court and bans the import of agricultural products from Ukraine,” said Peter Magyar.

In early April 2025, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán confirmed that he had signed a decision to withdraw the country from the International Criminal Court. On April 29, the Hungarian parliament voted to withdraw the country from the ICC.

On May 20, the National Assembly of Hungary supported a proposal to withdraw Hungary from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The announcement of Hungary's withdrawal from the ISS coincides with a visit to the country by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hungary, as a state party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, is legally obligated to execute arrest warrants issued by the court. Therefore, it is obligated to arrest Netanyahu during his visit, but Orbán has assured that he will not do so.

Viktor Orban condemned the ICC's arrest warrant for Netanyahu for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
