Macron: Moving away from Ukraine does not meet US global interests
In an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, Macron stressed the importance of calm and constructive interaction after recent tensions, Ukrinform reports.
“I believe that despite the anger, everyone needs to return to calm, respect and understanding so that we can really move forward, because the issue at stake is too important,” Macron said.
He emphasized his goal of “pacifying relations,” which he has already begun to move toward in his communications with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump.
“On these issues, it is preferable to hold strategic and confidential discussions in order to move forward and clarify misunderstandings between the parties, but without the presence of outsiders,” Macron added.

He also noted that the United States has no choice but to resume this dialogue.
“The obvious destiny of the Americans is to be on the side of the Ukrainians, I have no doubt about that. What the United States has done over the last three years is entirely consistent with its diplomatic and military tradition. I want the Americans to realize that distancing themselves from Ukraine is not in their interests,” he said.
Macron reiterated that a just and sustainable peace cannot be achieved by abandoning Ukraine. He warned that if Washington agrees to a ceasefire without security guarantees for Kyiv, its strategic deterrence against Russia, China and other global players will immediately lose its effectiveness.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer earlier held telephone talks with Trump and Macron after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London.
