France will not participate in Operation Project Freedom to release ships blocked in the Strait of Hormuz, announced by US President Donald Trump.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated this during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit, BFMTV reports.
“We are not going to participate in something incomprehensible,” he said briefly regarding Paris's participation in this American operation.
Macron also called on Washington and Tehran to “coordinate” the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which he believes will once again ensure sustainable ship traffic through this important strategic route.
On May 4, the head of the White House announced that America was launching a humanitarian operation to release ships of neutral countries blocked in the Strait of Hormuz.
Military support for the project will involve guided missile destroyers, over 100 land-based and sea-based aircraft, multi-role unmanned platforms, and 15,000 military personnel.
