Maasikas recommends Ukraine to restore asset declarations by autumn
“Over the last year, Ukraine's achievements on its EU path have been admirable. Now, let's focus on completing the few outstanding things by autumn. Some concern the pitical class as a whe, like restoration of the asset declarations – a good testcase for real commitment [necessary for reforms needed to join the EU],” the diplomat posted on Twitter.
As reported, on June 22, the Eurean Commission presented an interim assessment for Ukraine regarding the implementation of seven recommendations necessary for the start of accession negotiations. So far, Ukraine has fully implemented two recommendations.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, the Verkhovna Rada suspended the process of mandatory asset declaration for officials, allowing them to submit the data after martial law is lifted. At the same time, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention left an portunity for vuntary submission of asset declarations which few pele took advantage of.
Reinstating the obligation for officials to submit declarations in the coming months is one of the conditions of the $15.6 billion EFF program for Ukraine approved by the International Monetary Fund.
