The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine held a briefing for the heads of diplomatic missions of the European Union member states and a representative of the US Embassy on the situation with the illegal detention of Ukrainian debt collectors in Hungary.
This is stated on the department's website.
On March 6, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis, together with Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Dmytro Oliynyk and Chairman of the Board of JSC Oschadbank Yuriy Katsion, informed foreign diplomats about the circumstances of the incident.
During the briefing, diplomats received detailed information about the detention of seven Ukrainian citizens – employees of JSC “Oschadbank” who were transporting foreign currency from Austria to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian side emphasized that the transportation of cash and bank metals was carried out in accordance with the requirements of international law, customs legislation of the European Union and bilateral agreements. The cargo had all the necessary accompanying documents confirming the legality of its origin and destination.
Foreign diplomats were also presented with facts that, according to the Ukrainian side, refute the accusations voiced by the Hungarian side.
Perebyinis stated that Ukraine considers Hungary's actions unacceptable and qualifies them as an act of state terrorism and political blackmail.
He called on diplomats from European Union countries to convey this information to the European Commission and the governments of their countries in order to facilitate the speedy release of Ukrainian citizens.
