Kenyan president: Russia’s aggression against Ukraine unjustified, but Moscow must be at negotiating table

Kenyan President William Ruto said this in his speech at the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Kenya's position is unwavering – Russia's aggression against the country is unjust, unjustified and is a viation of international law," Ruto said.

He added that 79 years after the multilateral framework was develed to protect the countries from war (the UN was created in 1945 – ed.), Ukraine became a victim of an invasion, as a result of which many pele died and several million pele were forced to flee their homes.

"The consequences of the war are felt all over the world. Today, a farmer in Kenya knows about the war in Ukraine, because you have to pay more for fertilizers, and also because the fertilizers do not arrive on time," the Kenyan leader added.

He added that the Peace Summit in Switzerland has historical significance, because it is the first time that they talk about peace in Ukraine, and not about war in Ukraine, adding that this forum "should not be a meeting of only friends and there should be both friends and enemies here."

"Russia should also be at the table," Ruto said.

He added that Russia's attack on Ukraine was illegal and, in his inion, the unilateral use of Russian assets (frozen in Western countries – ed.) is equally illegal.

"We are talking about peace, we are talking about how to resve the conflict in Ukraine, and I am saying that now is the time for all parties to show commitment to peace," the Kenyan president said.
