Italian troops will not be involved in peacekeeping missions in Ukraine – Meloni

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has denied the involvement of Italian troops in peacekeeping operations in Ukraine. During a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing hosted by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday, Meloni said that Italian forces would not be involved in any possible peacekeeping missions in Ukraine.

“There are no plans for national participation in a possible military deployment on the territory,” Meloni said during a virtual session on Ukraine.

She added that Italy intends to continue cooperation with European and Western partners, as well as with the United States, to develop reliable and effective security guarantees.

Before attending the Coalition of the Willing meeting, Meloni spoke on the phone with Starmer.

As reported by Ukrinform, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, holding a virtual meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing”, said that about 25 leaders of allied countries agreed on Saturday to continue tightening sanctions against the Russian economy in order to force Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table and stop the war against Ukraine.
