Foreign Minister Sibiha Discusses Russia Sanctions With New Canadian Foreign Minister
As reported by Ukrinform, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry wrote about this on the social network X.
Sibikha thanked Anand for reaffirming Canada's steadfast and resolute support for the Ukrainian government. During the conversation, the two sides focused on diplomatic efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace for Ukraine, he said.
“I reiterated that a complete and sustainable ceasefire for at least 30 days remains an essential condition for the successful implementation of peace initiatives,” Sibiha wrote.
The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Canada also discussed the need to increase pressure and sanctions against Russia, “which continues to refuse a ceasefire and interfere with the peace process,” the minister's statement said.
“I emphasized that possible measures could be aimed at Russian energy, including lowering the maximum price for oil, as well as introducing additional sanctions against the Russian banking sector, including the Central Bank,” Sibikha noted.
The ministers agreed on further steps and contacts to enhance international support for Ukraine during Canada's G7 Presidency.
