Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov called on European partners to join efforts to develop means to counter ballistic missiles, continue funding the PURL program, and ensure the rapid use of EU financial support.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Mikhail Fedorov held a video conference with representatives of the E5 group (France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom – ed.). During it, Fedorov emphasized that the European defense industry must urgently increase production capabilities in the field of missile defense, as current volumes remain critically low.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine proposed launching joint projects with European countries to develop and produce anti-ballistic solutions, while simultaneously implementing their own initiatives.
Separately, he emphasized the importance of continuing funding for the PURL program, which is a key mechanism for obtaining PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems.
Fedorov also expressed gratitude to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for the initiative to provide additional PAC-3 missiles. Ukraine has already begun receiving these missiles.
“The rapid implementation of agreements within hours is an example of how we should work,” Fedorov noted.
Special attention during the discussions was paid to the importance of the rapid and flexible use of the EU loan for Ukraine's defense. According to the minister, these funds should work towards achieving the main goal – the successful conclusion of the war.
