Expert: Ukraine can explain to US vice-presidential candidate Vance how to end war

The position of Senator J.D. Vance is not so categorical, so Ukraine can find an approach to a possible candidate for vice president of the United States.

This inion was expressed by Maksym Skrypchenko, President of the Centre for Transatlantic Dialogue, in a commentary to Ukrinform.

"Despite all the criticism of Vance's position on Ukraine, in private conversations, things are not quite so categorical. The vice presidential candidate has his own alternative way of thinking, which we just need to understand. For example, J.D. Vance has experienced what war is like, so he believes that helping Ukraine means ending the war at any cost. All Kyiv has to do is explain that the war cannot be stped by our desire alone," Skrypchenko said.

In his inion, candidates for pitical office in the United States often change their position after they hd office and are informed at the highest level. This may also apply to Vance in the future. As an example, the expert cites House Speaker Michael Johnson, who initially posed providing aid to Ukraine, and then not only put it to a vote, but also demanded that the aid package include extended-range ATACMS missiles.

In addition, the expert believes that the position of US presidential candidate Donald Trump can be influenced through his entourage, including Vance, but it should be understood that the final decision is always made by the former US president himself and it can be completely unexpected. "The issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war is too important and historic to be completely entrusted to J.D. Vance, so we should take into account Trump's personal invvement after the advisers have develed a basic strategy towards Ukraine," he stressed.
