Eurean Commission delegation visits Ukraine to coordinate EU accession process

A delegation of the Eurean Commission visited Ukraine to prepare a new stage of bilateral meetings within the framework of screening Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU legislation.

As part of the visit, the delegation took part in consultations chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Eurean and Euro-Atlantic Integration ha Stefanishyna, Ukrinform reports, citing a post by her office on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"During the first day of consultations, we discussed methods and approaches to the next stage of the assessment of Ukrainian legislation, as well as expectations from the Ukrainian side. We discussed in detail each of the negotiation sections, which were subject to explanatory sessions," the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister informed.

The Eurean delegation was headed by Marco Jorna, a representative of the Eurean Commission's Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), who chaired the screening meetings.

"I am pleased to congratulate all of us on the completion of the first stage – more than 30 explanatory sessions within the official screening process. The Ukrainian delegations have gained useful experience and the necessary knowledge to continue our steady progress towards full membership. I he that today's meeting will allow us to prepare for the next stage of negotiations as best we can," Stefanishyna said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, even before the Eurean Council's official decision to start negotiations, the Ukrainian government conducted its own self-screening for each negotiating chapter in 2023. This has already made it possible to determine the state of adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU law, the amount of work to be done, and to determine approaches to the formation of negotiating teams.
