Dutch Defense Ministry: Security guarantees for Ukraine must be created

To achieve a just and sustainable peace, it is necessary to create security guarantees for Ukraine.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stated this in an exclusive comment to an Ukrinform correspondent in The Hague.

“In order to achieve a just and sustainable peace, we need to establish security guarantees for Ukraine. We are currently, of course, discussing what these guarantees might look like. I think it is important that we do this together with Ukraine and with European countries, because they play a key role in this process. But we should also involve the United States, because their support is necessary to make these guarantees credible. This is what we are working on at the moment,” Brekelmans noted.

According to him, European states should significantly increase arms production, since “we need to strengthen our military capabilities.”

“We should do this together with Ukraine, as it has significant production potential. I think it will be very useful if we cooperate, as Ukraine will be able to use these drones immediately, and European countries will be able to develop their industries. This is what we are currently doing in our drone action plan. There are many projects in this program where Dutch and Ukrainian manufacturers are working together on drones. I think it is beneficial for both sides, as Ukraine gets more drones for immediate use, and the Netherlands can continue to develop our production capacity in this area. We can share our technologies and innovations, and also learn from Ukraine, as they certainly use these drones on a daily basis. So I see great potential for both sides,” Brekelmans emphasized.
