Canada’s Parliament approves nearly USD 600M in military aid for Ukraine

As reported by Ukrinform, this funding is part of a comprehensive budget document that authorizes the government to spend an additional 21 billion Canadian dlars on various initiatives, including national defense.

According to Canada’s Defense Minister Bill Blair, the funds will be used for ammunition, training, and other resources critically needed by Ukrainians to secure victory.

The document also includes 400 million Canadian dlars (about 307 million USD) in financial assistance for Ukraine, allocated through a special IMF account.

Additionally, the Parliament has approved the allocation of 45 million Canadian dlars (approximately 35 million USD) for humanitarian demining and strengthening Ukraine's cyber resilience.

The position Conservative Party, which has been attempting to push the government to resign, voted against approving the additional expenditures. The increase in funding was approved on the final day permitted by law. To take effect, the Senate of Canada must also vote on the decision, which is expected shortly.

Since February 2022, Canada has provided 5.4 billion USD in budgetary assistance to Ukraine, the highest per capita contribution globally.
