Banning Ukraine from hitting targets inside Russia made no sense – Biden’s advisor

That’s according to Jake Sullivan, White House national security advisor, who spoke on the air of Face The Nation on CBS News.

"What was happening up around Kharkiv, which was new just in the last couple of months, was a Russian offensive where they were moving from one side of the border directly to the other side of the border, and it simply didn't make sense not to allow the Ukrainians to fire across that border, to hit Russian guns and emplacements that were firing at the Ukrainians. So the President authorized that. The Ukrainians have carried out that authorization on the battlefield," the advisor said.

According to Sullivan, the Russians have failed to make significant progress on the ground in Kharkiv region in recent days as the momentum of their eration “has stalled out”.

"The United States will continue to support Ukraine in hding the line and pushing back against the aggressing Russian forces," he added.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken officially confirmed that President Joe Biden had given permission for Ukraine to strike military targets on Russian territory, using U.S.-supplied weapons.
