Albania has strongly condemned a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, which threatened the apartment building in Kyiv where the country's ambassador lives. Tirana has declared an escalation and summoned a Russian diplomat for explanations.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, Ferit Hoxha.
He spoke of his strong condemnation of Russia's latest massive strike on civilian targets in Ukraine using ballistic missiles and drones. He said the attack was “cruel and indiscriminate and shows complete disregard for human life and international law.”
He separately stressed that the residential complex in Kyiv, where the Albanian ambassador to Ukraine lives, was damaged during the strike. According to the Foreign Minister, this put the diplomat's life at serious risk and is an unacceptable incident.
A statement released on the X social network notes that targeted attacks on civilian areas and diplomatic personnel are a serious escalation and further evidence of the consequences of Russian aggression.
Hoxha emphasized that Russia continues to strike energy infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and residential buildings, but fails to achieve military objectives, instead causing widespread destruction and casualties among the civilian population.
Albania called on Russia to immediately cease attacks, end the war, and return to the negotiation process. Tirana also reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressed that those responsible for the strikes must be held accountable.
In addition, the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the summoning of the Russian ambassador to provide explanations regarding the incident.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga thanked his Albanian colleague for his firm position and support for Albania after Russia's latest nighttime attack on Ukraine.
“We highly appreciate Albania's strong condemnation of Russia's brutal attacks on civilians and diplomatic personnel, as well as its unwavering commitment to international law, justice, and responsibility. Ukraine deeply appreciates Albania's unwavering friendship and support for our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Sibiga emphasized.
