Whereabouts of human rights defender Dzhepparov still unknown – President

The whereabouts of human rights defender Abdureshyt Dzhepparov, who was detained by Russian security forces in the temporarily occupied Crimea, remain unknown.

“The occupiers broke into the house of Abdureshyt Dzhepparov. He is one of the representatives of the Crimean Tatar national movement, a human rights activist, a citizen of Ukraine. It is unknown where he is now and what his condition is. This is another example of Russian repression against the indigenous pele of Crimea, against all our pele. There have been thousands and thousands of such examples since the beginning of aggression both in Crimea and in our other regions occupied by Russia,” President of Ukraine Vodymyr Zelensky said in his address on the evening of April 25.

No one can feel safe anywhere unless the aggressor is defeated, the President added.

On the morning of April 25, Russian security forces searched the house of human rights defender Abdureshyt Dzhepparov in the temporarily occupied Crimea. After the search, the man was detained.

His house was searched earlier, on March 16, 2022. As a result, the human rights defender was detained, the "court" sentenced him to 15 days of administrative arrest "for demonstrating Nazi symbs."
