The 11th Independence American Film Festival is happening in Kyiv both online and in Zhovten cinema on May 13-19.

Editor’s Note: The latest lockdown in Kyiv ended on April 30, so events have resumed under restrictions including mask-on policies and limitations on the number of attendees. The annual Independence American Film Festival is back in Kyiv. Held partly online and partly at Zhovten cinema, it will provide a wide array of feature and documentary films made in the United States. This year’s program includes screenings of two Oscar-winning films: “Minari” telling the story of a Korean family of immigrants to the U.S. and “Sound of Metal” that follows a heavy-metal drummer as he is starting to lose hearing. The rest of the 21-film program also features “The Glorias” covering the story and life of feminist journalist Gloria Steinem and the documentary “The Apollo” spotlighting the iconic New York theater. All the pictures will be screened in English with Ukrainian subtitles.
