UN Coordinator in Ukraine: Last year we received USD 3.4B to help pele affected by war

The relevant statement was made by UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown in an interview with Ukrinform.

“In 2022, it [support – Ed.] was outstanding. The member states but also foundations. So, we were able to receive USD 3.4 billion in 2022 to respond to the needs of the pele affected by the war in Ukraine. So far, which is 80% of what we asked for. So far this year we received 15%, but we will continue, and I will continue to advocate,” Brown td.

In her words, the UN is planning to allocate USD 5.6 billion for humanitarian response in Ukraine in 2023. Part of that is for Ukrainians who left Ukraine and are in the neighboring countries, while USD 3.9 billion is for pele that are in Ukraine.

According to Brown, it is a process that takes months to devel the number of pele in need, reclect information, and their consultations.

Brown noted that, during 2022, the UN’s first priority was to respond to the needs of those who lost their home, those who had to flee both within the country and outside.

The second priority was about the winter and how to ensure that in the most rural communities affected by the war the pele did not freeze and did not starve to death during that winter.

The third was about providing assistance in the areas recaptured by Ukraine, as well as communities situated within 20 kilometers of the frontline.
