Ukrainian and Danish Culture Ministers Discuss Museum Cooperation

Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine Nika Tochytskyi and Minister of Culture of Denmark Jacob Engel-Schmidt discussed the possibilities of joint work between museums of both countries in organizing exhibition projects.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications reported this, as reported by Ukrinform.

During the telephone conversation, both ministers discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including support for Ukraine’s European integration and international efforts to protect cultural heritage damaged by Russian aggression.

Tochytsky expressed gratitude for Denmark's contribution to the new Ukraine2EU program, jointly initiated by the European Union, Denmark, Lithuania and Sweden to promote Ukraine's integration into the EU.

He noted that the three-year program with a budget of 16.7 million euros will be an important step on Ukraine’s path to EU membership.

Tochitsky also thanked Denmark for its participation in the first international conference “Cooperation for Sustainability”, held in Uzhgorod on February 1, and for its support of the Declaration on Strengthening the Sustainability of the Cultural Sector in Ukraine, adopted following the conference.

Moreover, Tochitsky emphasized the importance of the declaration in promoting international cultural cooperation.

“Today, it is extremely important to unite international support for Ukraine’s cultural heritage, assess losses and damage, and strengthen the fight against the illegal circulation of cultural property,” he noted.

The ministers also discussed prospects for further cooperation between museums of both countries with the aim of implementing exhibition projects.

The Ministry recalled that one of the most striking initiatives was the joint exhibition “Rus – Vikings in the East”, which was held at the Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus (Denmark) in 2022. The National Museum of the History of Ukraine took part in the project, which involved 15 museums from nine EU countries.

On April 1, the European Union launched the Ukraine2EU program, aimed at preparing Ukraine for accession and membership in the EU.
