Ukraine’s Chief Medical Officer says COVID-19 quarantine may be extended until May 12

The government is to consider the issue on April 22.

Ukraine’s Chief Medical Officer Viktor Liashko says the coronavirus COVID-19 quarantine in the country may be extended until May 12.

“Wait until Wednesday. At a government meeting [on Wednesday], a decision will be made to extend or shorten the quarantine,” he said in a comment for the RBC Ukraine news agency. “The Cabinet of Ministers will consider it on the 22nd. The chief sanitary officer forecasts [it will be extended] at least until May 12. The decision is to be made by the government.”

As reported, Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers expects an increase in coronavirus daily growth rates in early May. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this forecast at a recent meeting on anti-coronavirus measures with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

After the curve is flattened, the Ukrainian government will start implementing anti-crisis measures to support the economy.
