Sofia Rotaru is a famous pop singer who was a star not only of the Ukrainian stage for many years. But in recent years, with the beginning of a full-scale war, the celebrity simply disappeared. Her sister, Aurika Rotaru, speaks for her.
There has been a lot of speculation online about where the singer might actually be now. For example, Laima Vaikule said that Rotaru was in Kyiv when the full-scale war began, producer Leonid Dznyunyk claimed that the artist had left for the USA, sister Aurika repeatedly assured that Sofia Nikolaevna was in Kyiv, and Russian producer Ilya Salagani stated that the celebrity lives in Italy with her family, because they have housing there. After that, the celebrity published several more greetings for subscribers on the social network on the occasion of various holidays. Her last post is dated August 7, 2025. The singer posed at various locations in Kyiv. She also left a laconic caption – these are lines from the song “Water Flows”: “Water flows and the summers pass.”

Why is Sofia Rotaru silent about the war?
In December 2025, Ukrainian TV presenter Oleksiy Sukhanov intrigued with a statement on the program “IPsO and People” that Sofia Rotaru was not just silent. He did not reveal all the details, so he left this question open.
I would like to record an interview with Sofia Mikhailovna. She refuses. She really wants to talk, but, believe me, there is one circumstance that is preventing her from doing so. She is not just being silent, as I was told,

Oksana Bilozir also spoke about Sofia Rotaru's position, noting that it is not worth interpreting the actions of a celebrity.

The network suggests that this behavior of the singer may be related to her property in the occupied Crimea. At the end of 2023, the occupiers took away the Villa Sofia hotel from Rotaru. The invaders called this move a “punishment” for the singer for supporting Ukraine and expressed a desire to deprive the star of the title of “Honorary Citizen of Yalta”. At that time, it was reported that the occupation authorities wanted to nationalize and sell Rotaru's hotel at auction, and the funds would go to the Russian army.
In the fall of 2025, the Russian Telegram channel Shot wrote that the singer has always been the owner of the “Villa”. The artist was afraid that “Villa Sofia” would be confiscated, so she allegedly transferred the ownership to her son Ruslan. The channel writes that the singer still pays money to the gardener who looks after the territory and pays property tax to the Russian budget . Why doesn't Rotaru give concerts?
Previously, her former director stated that, in Rotaru's opinion, now is not the time for concerts and the singer will no longer go to Russia for performances.

Aurika Rotaru recently said that her sister has no plans to return to the stage yet. At the same time, she did not rule out that after Ukraine's victory over Russia, Sofia Rotaru may once again delight fans with her music.
The singer continues to receive job offers. For example, she recently refused to perform in Dubai, where she was offered a fee of 200 thousand euros. A Russian producer made a statement to Russian media that this was the artist's conscious position.
Now they were offering 200 thousand euros for five songs. It was a performance in Dubai. She refused. She says: “While the fighting is going on, it's not the time for concerts,”
