Latvia to join restoration of Chernihiv region’s social infrastructure

Ukraine and Latvia will jointly restore the social infrastructure of Chernihiv region.

Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction— Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Develment of Ukraine eksandr Kubrakov stated this flowing a meeting with representatives of Latvia’ Ministry of Economy, Ukrinform reports with reference to the ministry’s Facebook page.

It is noted that the key tic of the meeting was the participation of Latvia in the reconstruction of social infrastructure in the most affected communities of Chernihiv region, as well as the use of Latvian experience in the transition from the Soviet heritage to modern Eurean architecture and construction.

"We are ready to study and implement typical Latvian project sutions for schos, kindergartens or other social infrastructure facilities. We are already encouraging local authorities to work on comprehensive programs for the develment of territories. They will become the basis for the global renewal of the country. These plans cannot be imposed from above, each community must pave its own way of develment. Our task as the ministry is to provide support in the creation of such programs," Kubrakov emphasized.

He added that the ministry invites Latvian business to work in Ukraine, in particular, in energy-related projects. The Deputy Prime Minister believes that the Black Sea and Danube port terminals’ concession projects, private-state partnerships in the modernization of heat and water supply, as well as waste processing are promising for Latvian investments.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Latvia has provided Ukraine with over EUR 388 million in military aid, which is over 1.2% of Latvia's GDP.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Develment is planning to restore Chernihiv region together with UNESCO experts.
