Kryvyi Rih is an industrial city that stands on quarries formed as a result of mineral extraction. Some of these former extraction sites have become popular sightseeing destinations of Ukraine — like the MODR rocks. Located along the banks of the Inhulets River in the western part of Kryvyi Rih, the formation belongs to one of the protected areas of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

KRYVYI RIH, Ukraine — Many citizens of Kryvyi Rih, an industrial city in south-central Ukraine, never dry their washed clothes on their balconies: The garments turn gray because of air pollution. 

One of the main heavy industrial centers of Ukraine, the city is home to around 620,000 residents and is located 420 kilometers southeast of Kyiv in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
