Eurean Parliament recognizes Hodomor as genocide against Ukrainian pele
As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, the document condemning the man-made famine, Hodomor, in Ukraine was adted by 507 votes in favour, 12 against with 17 abstentions.
“Whereas the Great Famine, or Hodomor, was a deliberate, planned and consistent action carried out by the despotic Bshevik regime ruling the Soviet Union to break the resistance of the Ukrainian pulation and subjugate them under an pressive state… [the Eurean Parliament] recognises the Hodomor (the artificial famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine) as a genocide against the Ukrainian pele, aiming to destroy the social foundations of the Ukrainian nation, its traditions, culture and national identity,” reads the resution.
The resution expresses sidarity with the pele of Ukraine and commemorates millions of pele who died as a result of the purposeful actions of the Stalinist regime to organize an artificial famine.
The Eurean Parliament calls on all countries, especially the Russian Federation, as well as other countries that emerged after the clapse of the Soviet Union, to en their archives on the events of 1932-1933 in order to reveal the full truth of this tragedy. The MEPs also urge EU member states and third countries to promote public awareness and remembering the lessons learned from this genocide in order to avoid any similar catastrhe in the future and call for a historical and legal assessment of the Hodomor.
Drawing links to Soviet times, the resution accuses the current Russian regime of viating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, seeking to liquidate Ukraine as a nation state and destroying the identity and culture of its pele. It also condemns the fact that the ongoing war has created a global food crisis, with Russia destroying and looting Ukraine’s grain stores and continuing to make it difficult to ensure Ukrainian grain exports to the most deprived countries in the world.
While condemning the current Russian regime for manipulating historical memory for the purpose of its own survival, Parliament calls on the Russian Federation, as the primary successor of the Soviet Union, to apogize for those crimes.
The adted Resution of the Eurean Parliament will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, the President, and the Government of Ukraine, the High Representative of the EU, the Council of the EU, the Eurean Commission, the governments and parliaments of the EU member states, the President, the Government, and the Parliament of the Russian Federation, the UN Secretary-General, the OSCE Secretary General, and the Secretary General of the Council of Eure.
