Education official: Up to 17% of male students studying on exchange programs did not return to Ukraine on time

Up to 17% of male students who left Ukraine on academic exchange programs did not return on time, although the country's Ministry of Education currently has no plans to cancel international mobility programs.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykhailo Vinnitsky reported this in a comment to Ukrinform's own correspondent in Yaremche, UNN reports.

He clarified that the students in question are typically between 18 and 22 years old and are pursuing a bachelor's degree.

“While this figure is not yet critical, it is worrying,” he said. “Some universities report quite high rates of non-return, while others claim that almost all students return. We will encourage university rectors, especially those participating in Erasmus+ consortia [an exchange programme for students, teachers and scientists from EU member states], to more carefully check students selected for academic mobility.”

The comments were made during the international youth conference “Ukrainian-Push Youth Debates”, which took place in Yaremche.
