Coronavirus update: Cabinet to offer Zelensky to introduce national emergency “if necessary” – PM

Seven confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been registered in Ukraine, including one lethal one.

The Cabinet of Ministers, if necessary, will offer President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to introduce national emergency to counter the spread of coronavirus, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told an extraordinary plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Tuesday morning, an UNIAN correspondent reports.

“In the future, if necessary, we are ready to introduce a state of emergency in Ukraine, as most European countries are doing. If it’s necessary, we are ready for such decisions. Proposals have been drafted and will be submitted,” PM said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, today  Ukraine authorities have confirmed seven cases of Covid-19 infection, of which one was lethal (in an elderly woman, who recently returned from Poland, died in Zhytomyr region).

On March 16, the president said he was ready to introduce a state of emergency in Ukraine, if necessary, to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
